Ranked among the 10 most talented African personalities under 40 in her field by Forbes magazine, Leïla Bouamatou is a "self-made" model from "Bouamatou" family , a famous Mauritanian banker who has proven himself through the world of banking finance for over forty years.

This girl, who inherited a taste for banking from her father, took her own path which allowed her to create a shortcut to success. An expert in financial management, Leila Bouamatou has impressed the entire African business class for three years with her progressive visions and her successes which challenge the perceptions, customs and standards that give women a subordinate role.

Générale de Banque de Mauritanie (GBM) was created in 1995 on the initiative of a Mauritanian businessman Mohamed Bouamatou and with the support of the Belgolaise (subsidiary for Africa of the famous Fortis Bank).

Since its inception, GBM has developed an investment banking profile attracting the country’s companies which have found in it the ideal partner. In the meantime, GBM has gained the confidence of international financial backers such as the ADB, EIB or the IFC (International Finance Corporation). The latter enabled it, moreover, to be the first Mauritanian bank to be eligible for the global program of “Trade Finance” (GTFP).

Through its professionalism and competence of its management team, GBM has built a large network of correspondents around the world.

And so today, GBM enjoys the confidence of first rank international correspondents on all continents and through whom it has significant confirmation lines, among which are: CITIBANK, NATIXIS, COMMERZBANK,  BANK OF TOKYO etc…

GBM, known for its availability, integrity and expertise for financial packages, has acquired the undisputed status of reference bank in Mauritania for businesses.

Our main mission is to contribute to the development of the national economy by financing industrial, commercial and other projects. However, we refuse to finance any deemed suspicious activity (related to or indirectly with drug trafficking, weapons, money laundering, terrorism, etc.)

Our commitment to fight poverty was realized by the significant support we provide to Bouamatou Foundation (FB ) since its creation. This institution is active in several areas of humanitarian action

  • Support for the implementation of water distribution networks for the poor
  • Construction of public buildings in remote areas of the country (schools, health centers, mosques, etc.)
  • Coverage of medical evacuations abroad
  • Grants for school and university studies in and outside the country for children from needy families

The masterpiece in humanitarian action is especially the ophtalmological hospital of the FB, which provides care, distributes medicines and medical glasses to the poorest populations, without asking anything in return

Through its numerous programs against trachoma, the doctors and nurses of the Foundation periodically move with their equipment and materials within the country to find patients in the most remote areas to treat them
