According to the available data of MOOV Mauritel, its consolidated turnover grew by 8.4% in 2010 to 38,798 million. The mobile fleet experienced an increase of 17.4% going from 1,342,401 subscribers to 1,576,016 subscribers, the fixed base remained almost constant from 2009 to 2010, being between 40,500 and 40,900, despite the disaffection in favor of the mobile and the Internet fleet grew by 3.3%, going from 6,412 customers in 2009 to 6,624 in 2010. 

The Mauritanian Telecommunications Company (MAURITEL) was created in 1999 with the division of the Post and Telecommunications Office (OPT) into two national companies. In 2001 Itissalat Al Maghreb, Morocco’s telephone company, bought 54 percent of Mauritel to enable a strategic and technical partnership ahead of the planned privatisation of the state-owned telecommunications utility, It ceded a three-percent stake to the company’s workers which left the company shareholders distribution as follows:Mauritanian state:

Since its inception in the market, the Moroccan partner company and the Mauritanian State have been constantly working to modernise and increase the capacity of telecommunications infrastructure in Mauritania.
